Our work is structured into seven research areas (Work Packages) that guide research, knowledge exchange, and real-world application.
1. Real estate climate risk management
We assess how climate risks affect real estate in the Netherlands—mapping exposure, analyzing economic and policy impacts, and identifying strategies to manage financial risks. Our work includes evaluating how climate change influences property values, investment decisions, and existing management strategies, both in the Netherlands and internationally.
2. Governance arrangements
We study how public and private actors share responsibility for climate risk management. By analyzing current governance models and exploring new frameworks, we aim to develop more effective, fair, and coordinated approaches for climate-resilient real estate and infrastructure.
3. Physical climate risk & resilience analysis
Using data and modeling, we develop risk assessment tools to help cities and investors understand the impact of climate hazards. Our work includes mapping risks, creating decision-making tools, and setting standards for resilience planning.
4. Technical climate risk management strategies
We identify and test engineering and spatial solutions to reduce climate risks in urban areas. By evaluating different adaptation measures—alone and in combination—we determine the most effective ways to enhance resilience under various climate scenarios.
5. Knowledge integration & forum development
We facilitate collaboration between experts, policymakers, and stakeholders. By using AI and structured dialogue, we help bridge gaps in knowledge, ensuring that research insights lead to practical solutions. We also develop strategies to strengthen climate risk governance beyond the Netherlands.
6. Urban use cases
We apply research insights in real-world urban settings, testing climate adaptation strategies in Dutch delta cities. By working directly with local communities, we assess challenges, refine solutions, and ensure strategies are inclusive, feasible, and impactful.
7. Knowledge utilization
We focus on making climate risk knowledge accessible and actionable. Through engagement with policymakers, businesses, and the public, we translate research findings into practical guidance, support informed decision-making, and foster a broader societal dialogue on climate adaptation.
